The Arts – The Montessori Way
Music and movement education are also important parts of the curriculum as well as the Arts. They offer children ways to express themselves, their feelings, experiences and ideas. Montessori schools are very interested in helping children develop control of their fine and gross-motor movement.
Playful Art offers a one hour per week fine art class at Whole Earth Montessori. The children work with me, Lisa Springer, and we do art! All kinds of art – from painting, drawing and printmaking to more three dimensional work in clay and found objects. We experiment with different media and technique. We discuss and discover much about art making, art history and our own self-expression. It is very much about exercising the right side of our brain and working on creative problem solving that applies not only to art, but all areas of our lives.
